Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

Today is the day! My friend arrives on a plane tonight for a week of fun and frolic. Hee hee. My house is not sparkling clean like I had wanted, but I think it will have to do. I am tired and very, very short on time. It's not too bad, I guess, but I have a bunch of boxes in my closet that have been stashed away for later sorting. I will have to dig to find anything in them.
7-Eleven is totally getting my business these days...I got a strawberry poptart flavour steamer this morning. Yum yum yum yum yum. Did I mention yum? And tomorrow they come out with their "Slurp-accino"!!!!! I am SOOOOOOO there! (Iced coffee, for those who aren't catching on)
Erm...my brain just stopped. I have no idea what I was going to write....at all.
Anyway...I need to do a million things. MUST.....HAVE....COFFEE!!!!!!!!! We will start with that task, and hopefully the awakeness required for the remaining tasks will come shortly after.

And the Beat goes On

Well, life continues. Two days until my friend arrives. The house is starting to look halfway decent...I plan to steam clean tomorrow, so that should get rid of a lot of the stains that crop up when you have kids, and a living room right beside the kitchen.
I had a very short route today....28 papers. It took me all of maybe 20 minutes to do, 45 minutes including driving to and from the route. So it's really early and I'm happy to be done, and I will soon go crash on the couch for a bit before starting the final stretch of mad cleaning.
Having a bit of a personal internal crisis lately...my clothes don't look good on me, I don't like the way I look or feel, my belly sticks out and I'm just fat, not pregnant. For me, this is one of the hardest things to deal with. As I shared a few months ago, I have a bit of a history with the whole weight issue, and times like this make it that much harder to stay on the "right" path. Now, if I were any good at portion control, impulse control, and so on, there would not be a problem, but I like food. A lot. And unfortunately, the food I like is not celery sticks and water. And so I eat. And eat. And feel bad. And eat. And consider old ways. And eat.
I was looking through photos a few days ago, and that was really hard...there is a picture in one of my albums from 1996. I looked FABULOUS...I was wearing this tight pair of jean shorts, a short sleeved, button-up shirt with a little knot tied in the front, legs that went FOREVER, long hair...I looked GOOD! Then I looked at some recent photos of myself, like the one taken at Christmastime, at a friend's house, with some high school buddies. It made me sick. Double chin, just oozing fatness...nothing fabulous about how I look at all. And I try. I have the best of intentions, I have the best of plans...and sabotage myself again and again.
I suppose I should be happy that I seem to at least be maintaining a certain level in my fatness....I kind of bounce within a 5 pound range...but that range is still 50 pounds higher than what I'm supposed to be for my height. To be absolutely honest, if I could do whatever my heart desired, if I didn't have to worry about feeding the rest of the family and all, I probably wouldn't be eating much. I eat because I cook. I eat because the food is there because the rest of the family wants to eat. I think food is highly overrated....causes too many problems. I could lose that weight, if I could do it my way. I wish I could. I want to. Especially because I know how good I was at getting the weight off back when I was younger.
Everybody tells me that when you have kids, the pounds creep on and never come off. That can't be true. I'd rather die than stay fat forever. I want to be thin, beautiful, and sexy. One year....one year I'll find a way. One year, I'll beat this gluttony, this pigginess that's making me look more and more like one.

Ham anyone?

Check out THIS story!!!
http://www.canada.com/reginaleaderpost/
news/canada_world/story.html?id=1ec5fe35-a3d8-46d7-a43b-4ad5dbd76254
again, you will have to copy and paste, but it's worth it....this was in our newspaper this morning, and the picture will just boggle your mind!!!
This is a REAL story and that is a TRUE picture. Wow!
Finally had dry enough grass to mow it all down, much to the 'squitoes' disappointment.
Daughter had a play date with two friends, which went fairly well with few issues, plus the added bonus of freshly made chocolate chip cookies, Koolaid, and freezies. We just said goodbye and sent the two girls home a few minutes ago.
It's been a busy day...papers, cleaning, baking, Husband to his umpiring position for the day, us to Daughter's baseball game which they lost, but fought valiantly in the attempt, especially considering they were short 6 players...playdate, and now we decide what to eat for supper before I go out to a ladies' night with the kids, where Husband will wander over to in order to get a ride home from umpiring.

A bit of Bragging

Something I forgot to mention this morning from the front page of the paper is that Regina succeeded in its quest for fame last fall...we are officially in the Guiness Book of World Records for the Most Food Collected for the Food bank in a 24 hour period....beating Philadelphia's previous record by 25 tons! Winnipeg has issued a challenge to us (we are rivals, like Calgary and Edmonton or Montreal and Toronto), so we will have to do just as well, if not better, this year.
And now back to cleaning my room. *grin*

Shouldn'ta eaten that!

Don't know what "that" actually is, but Husband and I have not been feeling great. Husband actually didn't feel good for the last few days, I was feeling okay....until this morning. I shall keep it short and just say that papers took longer than I would have liked because I had to make two mid-route trips to a local Husky and a local Tim Hortons. Not fun. My plan had been to not eat or drink anything for awhile, like maybe all day, but once I got home, I really was very hungry, so unthinkingly, I had oatmeal with raisins and a mug of coffee. I am hoping that this was not a huge mistake.
On a happier note, 6 days until my friend comes. I am very excited and impatient, but at the same time a bit stressed...I need to get the house clean. It's getting there, but not as fast as I'd like, and every time I turn around, I see something else that needs to be done....windows and mirrors, walls with handprints all over them, spills in the fridge (pancake syrup and cherry juice. Yuck!), stains on the carpet, floors that need to be mopped, etc, etc, etc, as well as the everyday cleanups that need to be done of dishes and dirt and toys and whatever else the family leaves around or tracks in. And we all know how motivated I am and how energetic I tend to be. Bleah. I'm good for about 2 hours, then I kinda fizzle.
Guess I should go do that 2 hours at least. Today I focus on the downstairs, so cleaning MY room, the den, and the bathroom, and doing all the laundry that comes with those....and if I get ambitious, I will sort my craft boxes. Pretty sad....my craft box has exploded into 3.

HEAVE!!!!!

Today I started two new routes because a carrier quit. I think I know why. Along with the 114 papers sat 106 Sears catalogues, and not just ANY Sears catalogues. We are talking monster-size puppies, here. I believe they said each one weighs 1635g. That's nearly 2kg each! If that number is correct, I loaded 173 1/3 kg into my van today...about 381 lbs for those of you who work in pounds. They need to be done by Friday. It's been pouring for 3 days now. I'm wet, I'm cold, I'm tired, I'm sore, and even using my cart, which is going to collapse any day now, I just know it, I can only haul about 25 at a time, and that's WITHOUT the newspapers. I carried and hauled and delivered this morning, and due to sheer will, managed to deliver 114 newspapers and 66 catalogues in 3 hours.
I found a neat thing at the local Dollarama the other day, and used it this morning for a little bit, and it worked fairly well until the wind picked up...it's an umbrella, but instead of a handle, it has an elastic headband, so you wear it like a hat. perfect for me when I am pulling the cart with one hand and holding a load of papers plus my list in the other. I look like a blithering idiot, but it works, and quite honestly, at that time of the morning, I really don't care. It's not like I've had any time to work on making myself more than vaguely presentable anyway (drag my butt out of bed, into the bathroom, pj's off, t-shirt, jeans, etc on. Brush hair and slap on a hairband. Brush teeth. Boots, jacket on, keys in hand, and out the door all within 15 minutes).
Daughter was thrilled with me when I got home....I found two slightly crushed robin's eggs in the grass on one of the routes. There was enough shape left so you could see they were egg shells and get a general idea of the original size, and they were a beautiful shade of blue.
I have approximately a week before my friend arrives, and I want to look as good as possible, so I am back on the diet today, hoping I can stick to it enough to shed a few pounds before then, and maybe stick to it after that point, too, to finally kick those extra 50 pounds in the butt....or off my butt, if you will. So far so good,I guess. Mug of coffee with 1% milk and 2tsp sugar, 1 bowl oatmeal with 2 Tbsp raisins, some 1% milk in it, and 2 tsp brown sugar. Helped warm me up after those 3 soggy hours, too. :)
Probably doesn't hurt, too, that we are all done Husband's birthday cake and the box of Jos Louis he bought as a treat on that day. Less temptation.

The Ball Had Teeth!

Husband reminded me that I was going to write about the mishaps of the recent ball games....it was starting to look as if the ball was out to get everyone. First, Daughter was running to second base. The ball found its way over to her and resulted in her stepping ONTO the ball, obviously then crumbling to the ground in pain and tears (though I am happy to report no sprains or serious injury). Then the ball made its way, full speed, to the umpire. Let's just say he was REEEEEEEEAAAALLLLYYYY glad he had his "equipment" on that day. Knocked him over, but, again, happy to say, no serious injury. Then the ball smacked the player in the pitcher position in the face (we're talking 5-6 year olds here, by the way), but at least he was able to shake it off and keep playing. Later, it bounced off the helmet of a player running from second to third. Thank goodness for little league safety equipment!
If I didn't mention it yesterday, Daughter hit the winning RBI on Sunday, and her best friend scored the winning run (for those of you staring blankly at the screen now, as I would have before Daughter started baseball and Husband started showing off what an expert he thinks he is (hee hee) of baseball terms, an RBI is Run Batted In....Daughter hit the ball that won the game. Her best friend was on third at the time, so was the one who made it to home plate to score the winning point as a result of Daughter's hit.
For those of you with an insatiable curiosity, dying to know this weird web thing Husband did to my blog, here is the link to the finished product. Be warned....the language is somewhat obscene and vulgar...

Baseball, Bugs, and Buddies

I just don't seem to be writing here as often as I used to. Tired of talking about nothing, maybe. Or just off my schedule a bit, so it just kind of slips my routine. I'm obsessed with a new thing I found called Facebook, where I am catching up with a few friends, keeping up with a few others.
Daughter has also been busy with baseball. They have played 7 games so far, and have won 3, lost 3, and tied 1. I believe that has them tied for fourth place so far. They have another game on Wednesday, and then again on Saturday....and then they get a break until next Thursday...which also happens to be the day one of my best friends comes to visit. Finally! A friend visiting ME instead of me making the trips to WHEREVER to visit THEM! She is a friend from Montreal (Ohhhh, Montreal, how I MISS YOU!!!!!!!!!), but hails from Toronto these days. Still a fairly long journey, but not so bad by plane, which is what she is doing, sans enfants, sans mari, which I think is exactly what she needs...a break to just be HER for a week. We are going to have a ton of fun...walking trails, a trip up to Saskatoon together, proper pizza (with the topping UNDER the cheese), a Neverending Story marathon (1, 2, AND 3!), taking her to chorus with me....and whatever else I can think of to do with her.
Today I am itching and burning all at the same time...I have an allergy to insect bites, which makes the simplest bite that much more annoying, the severity depending on the bug (black flies and wasps are very bad, mosquitoes not so bad....unless I get a lot of them)...yesterday at the baseball game, I got about 12 mosquito bites. They swole up pretty big, and some of them are still pretty nasty...very red around them, itchy and sore at the same time...the worst is at joint level. I got one on each knee and one on the joint of my baby toe that are just NASTY...the knee ones are big, sore lumps, but the baby toe...oh!...it's horribly red and it itches and burns like mad, and of course any time I walk or whatever, it moves the bite and aggravates it. Rgh!
Husband played a joke on me today. Apparently there's this site that can make a fake blog site that looks just like yours, but changes all the text into gangsta speak. So he said he'd "edited" my blog, and gave me a link. I went to it and oh,boy! Was it ever NOT the way I would ever write! It was DISGUSTING language, and the funny thing was that, knowing what I had originally written, it actually made sense.

Serves me right!

I should never bemoan the fact that nothing interesting is happening. I should know better by now. I'm still a bit shaky from this morning.
During papers, somebody apparently stole a minivan and went on a rampage, speeding through the streets and ramming into parked cars on purpose. I happened to be about 2 doors away when they rammed the second car. They hit this car so hard that it moved the car down by a whole house (about 30m)...then they just backed up and roared away. I heard them hit the first car, saw the second, heard the third, and then they roared onto the local Christian high school/college campus and rammed into a tree so hard that the tree fell down (and we are not talking sapling here) before the van died and they ditched it and escaped.
Not my idea of a good morning...had to stand around and wait with the car's owner for the police after I called them, give a statement, wait awhile, finish my papers and hope my car hadn't been one of the ones hit, head off to my second route, late, but happy that my car WASN'T one of the ones hit, then had to skip the gym today because they called to say I needed to WRITE UP a statement and bring it down to the police station. Did that to find that the station would not open for another hour, so went to Wal-mart and got Husband his birthday gift, and had breakfast there, then back downtown to the station where i had to sit and answer a few more questions before rushing home so Husband could go to work.
It's 9:02AM and I'm ready to go back to bed. Adrenaline makes me soooooooo tired! And stupid. I got the license plate number, but said it wrong on the phone to the police, told them the wrong colour of the van, and could answer NOTHING in terms of description of make, model, or suspects.
Now I must get my head together, try to stay awake and focused, and clean house for a few hours. Hopefully this will be the end of the excitement....I'm a bit nervous about the suspect or suspects hunting me down tomorrow, since they likely saw me as they roared away after ramming the car.

Uh....

Well, I haven't written much lately....not really much to tell. Signed myself up for a find-your-friends type place called Facebook, which is kind of neat. Have 17 friends on there so far.
Daughter's team has a 2-3 record so far in baseball. And those 3 losses were ALL by only 2 runs.
For Mother's Day, Daughter made me a card and a couple of paper crafts, Son said "Happy Muvver's Day", and Husband promised to rent me a rototiller when I'm ready. And he ordered Chinese for supper. We also went to one of Daughter's baseball games.
We got the kitties an electric litter box yesterday. Cleans itself at the touch of a button....fabulous invention. We love it already.
Husband has decided to enter that new show being created by Phil Koagan (sp?), No Opportunity Wasted. I really hope he gets to be on the show....it would be really cool.
I am once again trying to lose a few pounds, and am one day in so far. It's frustrating, though....so many yummy foods out there screaming my name. I want it ALL! I know if I even TOUCH something like that, I'd eat too much. I'm doomed and I've hardly even started. *sigh* Saw pictures of myself from about 12 years ago. Ohhhhhhhhhh to look like that again!!!!!

Okie Dokie

Well, Husband got his phone number back and running yesterday. The home phone number is still ours, too, but they still haven't reactivated the phone yet, so if anyone calls (and I know because I've tried), it says the number is not in service. Hopefully that little glitch will be fixed fast. Unfortunately, the deal was that they did not get things straight with our payment...the payments came out of the wrong account, which was overdrawn, and so the bills did not get paid. They still should have called or sent a letter. Text message they claim they sent us....we never got it, but they don't believe us. So our credit rating is shot and we had to put down a $500 deposit just to get the phones up and running again, PLUS we will have the big, unpaid bill to deal with....but hopefully that can be done in installments.
I got my first sunburn yesterday, I think....mowed the lawn, and my neck area is a little itchy yet tender this morning. Haven't looked yet, but seems to me it's likely going to be sunburn.
Dad got himself into his local newspaper lately. Here is the link...I hope you will all check it out. :)
http://web.bcnewsgroup.com/portals-code/list.cgi?cat=23&paper=12&id=980404
It's a really good article, and may I add that 2008 is an exciting year because they will be HERE as well. (You will understand that comment if you have been reading my blogs AND read this article)
Found out yesterday that Andre Philippe Gagnon will be in town in early June, but a friend of mine will be here, and the tickets are likely already sold out, so I won't be going. And Mike Warnke will be in Calgary that same weekend, so I can't go. One year, hopefully, I will get to one or both of these guys' concerts....or maybe see a concert of Michel Courtemanche. He is HILARIOUS!!!!!!

Can't We Get A Break?

It never fails....just when things start looking like they're going in the right direction, we get knocked flat by another crisis of some sort. Last night, after chorus, we realized that our home number and Husband's cell number were not working. So we call Sasktel. Apparently we had a bill of over $1000 that we didn't know about. No way, we say, we'd know about something like that, and even if it were true, you'd think we'd have received a letter or phone call or something. "Sorry sir, the office is closed, you'll have to talk to someone in accounting tomorrow morning"
Fine. We dig up all our statements, to see if we can figure out what's going on. We discover our automatic withdrawal had been cancelled in April, for some unknown reason. Fine, so we're behind, but by $1000? No way! So Husband gets on my cell this morning to say what the hey. They cancelled our phones outright due to this supposedly huge unpaid bill. They say it's our own fault because they figure we should have noticed the lack of payments coming out. So sorry, gee whiz, I sit and monitor every penny. We missed it, so kill us. Chee! Automatic withdrawal is SUPPOSED to mean the money comes out without us having to make sure the bill is paid. No letter, no phone call. We mention that. "Oh, we sent you a text message about it" No, you didn't. "We received nothing to say you didn't receive it." Huh???????
Anyways, Husband is out at a Sasktel dealer REAPPLYING for phone service for those two phones, hoping we can get our same numbers back, because Sasktel wouldn't take our credit card over the phone, wouldn't reactivate our phones, etc.
This SUCKS! Not only do we not have phone service, but we have this unpaid bill that obviously needs to be dealt with and all the garbage that's going to go with this whole mess...and in the meantime we are losing customers because people phoning his cell phone are being told the number is not in service. So he can't work because nobody can reach him! AAAAAAUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Of songs and nachos

Well, it was certainly an interesting weekend....things seem to have gone well with the babysitters, and I came home proudly sporting 2 medals...3rd place mid-size chorus and 4th place overall (out of 17). Same placement as last year, but our score improved by 27 points this year to 583, and our showmanship mark moved up to a B+ with the other categories (sound, expression, aaaand....something else I forget) all being a solid B. We sang "Once Upon a Time" and "Alabama Jubilee" this year.
It was a lot of fun, but I'm really looking forward to next year when I go AWAY to Surrey.
Over the weekend, Husband in his busy schedule managed to pick up the annual flat of strawberries at the strawberry fair, so I was pleased to come home to 12c of those green plastic baskets loaded with berries to be cut, packaged, and frozen for jams and desserts over the next year.
The only true downside of the weekend was that poor Son got sick...babysitter fed him some of my hint of lime tortilla chips, which I forgot to warn her about...Son is allergic to something in the flavouring, and having eaten some, turned himself inside out at both ends, finally seeming to be better today.
Son just toddled in..."I 'ave a prezznt for you, mommy! Tha's yours!" My present is a dandelion he just picked for me in the backyard. What a sweetie!
Today I get to meet a friend for lunch at Red Lobster. Yummmmmm! :)

I'm off

Yay! Today I go away, all the way downtown for 2 days for competition. We hope to win, but in reality know that we haven't got a huge chance...the large choruses pared themselves down to their best singers, making themselves mid-size choruses, and giving themselves a distinct advantage when it comes to competition results. But we will have loads of fun, and for 2 days, I can be me, instead of Mommy and Wife. And it's my one weekend when I can justify a glass of Bailey's....I've heard there is a chocolate mint version out now.
This weekend, unfortunately, I will be having a mainly liquid diet....I seem to have myself a case of TMJ. Ouch! Luckily it doesn't affect my singing ability, but I can't chew, I can't blow my nose without severe pain, and every once in awhile it pops and has me clinging to the ceiling. Looked it up and apparently causes include stress and lack of sleep. Greeeeeeaaaaaat. None of that ever applies to me. Oh no. Never. :-s
Anyway, have a good weekend everybody, and I'll let you know how things went in my next post.

Crazy Day

Today will be busy. Delivered my route in the rain, went to the gym and worked my heart again, here I am now....soon everyone else will be up. Big Cat goes in to be shaved today because he has matts in his fur and won't let us brush him. Husband goes for his briefing before competition. Son has Toddler Time at the library. Daughter goes on a field trip today to the hospital. I finish packing. Tonight we perform at First Nite. In the between time, I need to finish cleaning the house, mop the floors, that sort of thing.
We found a babysitter....the granddaughters of one of the ladies in chorus. It's going to be very strange...my children will get 2 new babysitters and I won't even meet them...I'm gone by the time the babysitters come, and Husband will meet, greet, and brief them, and by the time I get home, it will be a little over half a day since they will have left. I'm a little nervous....I trust my chorus member that these are good girls, but it's hard to leave my kids with strangers, especially ones I won't even SEE.
This may be my last entry until Monday, we'll see.
Daughter's French Immersion test went well, she's all set to go for Grade 1....and found one of her baseball teammates in that class too.
The wind yesterday was something to behold...apparently they got up past the 100kph mark. I believe it....I was out in it. Not fun. It has settled down a lot today, probably once the rain came.

WednezzZZZZday

Wednesdays are not my best days, as you probably all know...I got 4 1/2 hours of sleep last night, after our Friends and Family show, got up at 4 today, delivered that route again (2 hours, but 2 less papers, so only made $20.50), then off to the gym for the first time in...awhile.
I decided maybe I should change the program I was using on the stepper...figured I was going to give myself a heart attack if I tried my usual fat burning program, so went for the heart control program instead. The machine asks for half your life story...time you want to go for, weight, age...total loss of dignity if anybody's looking over your shoulder. Anyway, plugged in all that personal, embarrassing info, and off I went...it actually worked quite well. My target heart rate was 142-161, and the machine sped up to get it up there, then as soon as I hit the magic number, slowed down until it hit the bottom one, and so on. I sweated like a pig and varied between 133 and 164, but mostly between 140 and 162. Didn't burn as many calories, but maybe this is healthier, especially when the fat burning program had my heart rate ranging from starting around 142 and getting up into the 180, staying mostly in the high 160's and low 170's.
Today Daughter goes for a trial run of French Immersion. It should be interesting.
Hunting desperately for a babysitter for this weekend, or I can't compete....really hoping something comes through or it's going to be an annoying weekend of staying in the hotel, babysitting my own kids while Husband runs the computers at contest, and not even being able to take part. That's what happens when one sitter moves to Haiti, one goes to college, and the other has a dance competition out of town this weekend.

Money, Money, money

Yeah, right. But anyway, I'm happy to be back to work again after a week of no work at all. Got up at 3:30 this morning and made myself $22 for about 2 hours' work. As early as 3:30 is, it actually felt really good to be back "on schedule" again, though I didn't get the chance to go to the gym today, since Husband has to leave early for his weekly breakfast meeting. Oh well.
Finished reading Dad's book...now I have to wait another year for his next one. Checking out the web was kind of neat....there are all kinds of libraries that carry his book already! (But I have this vague feeling I may have already mentioned that)
Now the rest of this week goes absolutely crazy. Today Daughter has her first real baseball game, at the same time as I have my Friends and Family night at chorus (AKA dress rehearsal with an audience), tomorrow morning I do papers, Daughter goes for her trial run of French Immersion (since last week the principal had forgotten to set it up with the teacher), and in the evening she has her Sparks year-end wrap-up party. Thursday morning,do papers, Husband goes for a briefing while I take one cat in for a haircut, take the kids grocery shopping, and Son to Toddler Time at the library. Pick up Husband and cat, take everyone home for lunch, get Daughter on the bus, finish packing, in the evening go perform at First Nite, go home, crash, get up, do papers on Friday, Husband goes for a meeting, comes back, takes me downtown, hopefully I drop off my stuff at the hotel (though i can't check in until 4PM), go to Mass Sing, Education class, check into the hotel, watch the Quartet competition, Saturday get up early, breakfast with everyone and maybe perform for them, last rehearsal, then the wild craziness of all of us 54 women getting costumes and makeup on, keeping voices warmed up, then the whirlwind of competition and the nervewracking, heart stopping stress of listening to the results and hoping we win so we can go to Internationals in Hawaii next year. Then we do Show of Champions (after a quick cold cut style supper), then party until 1AM. We all meet in someone's room to talk, laugh, sing, my roomies get drunk, we all crash around 4AM, and when we drag ourselves out of bed Sunday morning we pack and go home.
I love competition. :-D
